MediaCAST's Desktop Encoder is a high-performance hardware and software device for encoding, streaming and live broadcasting. It is designed to convert analog and digital video and audio into a variety of streaming formats for on-demand access and live IP broadcasting. The streams can be broadcast over your IP network for live viewing and simultaneously captured into the digital library for later on-demand viewing.

Hardware-based encoding provides high-quality, real-time conversion of live sources and stored files. Input of almost any source is possible including VHS, DVDs, filmstrip and audio cassette tapes using the appropriate player equipment. The encoders provide you with the unique ability to transcode (convert from one format to another) digital video and audio files from older non-streaming formats in real-time. Files can be uploaded for conversion from the built-in multi-drive, USB key drive, CD, DVD or from a network storage location.

The Desktop Encoder is the smallest of all the products in the MediaCAST Encoder family, and is an excellent option for classrooms and offices with limited available space.

More Information

MediaEncoders can broadcast live streams or publish them through a Media Appliance. This is advantageous because the MediaEncoder will not require a public IP address when live broadcasting over the Internet or through a firewall. This also provides limitless scalability in concurrent viewing especially when unicast is needed for Internet broadcasting of live events. The MediaCAST system supports both unicast and multicast live streaming video delivery and unicast on-demand video delivery.

If your organization is required to meet the Federal mandate of Section 508 you must have a solution for capture and display of closed captioning information for the deaf and hearing impaired. MediaCAST MediaEncoders and peripheral equipment can be configured to achieve this in several ways. If the source media does not include closed-captioning (as in internally created content) MediaCAST Caption™ is a Web-enabled tool allowing clients to create a synchronized transcript of the video or audio media.
