Copyright Compliance-Fair Use and The TEACH Act

Education Institution Need:  Complying with Copyright law is a requirement for schools that can be confusing and difficult to manage.  School staff may understand Copyright guidelines as it applies to traditional media however, in this digital age they need a new set of tools.  Tools that help them protect, secure, distribute and license video and audio, e-books, digital curriculum, and many other electronic learning resources.

MediaCAST Solution: Integrated Digital Rights and Fair Use Manager
The acceptable use and legal guidelines for educational institutions are based on the Copyright Fair Use and the most recent TEACH Act of 2002.  While these rules are lengthy and complex legal documents some well recognized organizations including the National Library Association have helped by creating guidelines schools can use as a model.

Included in MediaCAST are a uniquely designed set of tools to help schools manage, protect, license and report on content. These tools aid schools in their efforts of protecting user generated and 3rd party content obtained from publishers.

  • Fair Use Manager provides media and content specialists the feedback they need to determine when content and its specific use comply with district policy.

  • Secure user authentication and Copyright policy acceptance for all users provide a reporting trail that helps schools meet TEACH Act regulation.

  • Built-in settings to control substantiality compliance and set restrictions on individual media titles for controlling group based access, expiration dates, password protection, concurrent user limits and even automatic denial of service usage alerts.

  • Supports industry-standard DRM (Digital Rights Management) for encrypting and securing content for unauthorized viewing, copying and distribution.  E-commerce integration lets schools deliver community events and distance learning using pay-per view, pay-per-license and other distribution methods.

Education Results:
Schools that adopt MediaCAST have a controllable environment to store, share and manage digital content and learning resources.  They get new insight and reporting into classroom and student material usage and can even save money on content purchases by having the tools to meet publisher's new digital licensing structures.
