Upload all your media types and file formats
Higher Education Need: Any organization investing in a media/learning management system should avoid artificial, externally caused limits to the system that restrict its effective use. Limiting file formats equates to limiting accessibility, usability and future options by making a commitment to a proprietary format. Instead, seek interoperability across media formats and computer file types.
MediaCAST Solution: The digital repository allows a library of media resources to be made available for instant viewing from any computer on campus or off. Instructional staff can upload their course support materials into the digital repository and create links within their courses to video, audio, documents, Flash, HTML files, Web sites and more. Resources are protected with digital rights management to help the organization meet and report on compliance with the Copyright Fair Use and Teach Act guidelines. The digital repository includes the ability to create reservations and bookmarks to assist in sharing licenses of content across an organization.
MediaCAST strength is digital content management
-
Create your own centralized, searchable, digital repository of learning resources
-
Link to learning goals
-
Track usage and generate reports
-
Protect content and software licenses and ensure copyright compliance
Results: The unique feature is that it allows you to manage virtually any content in any format. Most systems have a short list of supported formats but MediaCAST supports most any electronic file from e-books to Google Earth and can be expanded as new formats become available. Additionally its reservation system lets you manage nonelectronic content and assets like a media cart, digital camera or printed resources. Some colleges import their library data electronically so all their content exists in the searchable library within MediaCAST. They typically still use their existing library system to check physical books out from and into the library. Multiple user levels allow clients to manage which users play the different content management roles.
MediaCAST also supports having multiple digital repositories and trusted libraries within the same system. Many clients want to segment libraries that may be for special groups of users or have unique viewing restrictions. The separate libraries of content can remain distinct or can be set as trusted libraries for sharing purposes.
